After much commotion in Lollipop Google has tackled the ‘silent mode’ problem. Android M’ll find useful new options to control the volume and notifications. Most importantly it’s all a lot more sense

Android. M: more than a silent mode

Android L Google had the idea to adjust the volume settings, but by wrong wording, unclear icons and more not-so-thoughtful adjustments was silent mode a big issue. Android M this significantly addressed and Google has done his best to rectify this and demanding users still give many options.

fast settings that appear after pressing the volume buttons can also now the media – and alarm volumes are adjusted. This was already possible, for example, Samsung and LG phones, but is also used on standard Android.

Do Not Disturb

The priority mode and silent mode of Android 5.0 and 5.1 continue to exist but now fall under the ‘do not disturb’. These non-store mode can still be turned on automatically and it now looks very much like the do not disturb function of Samsung phones with lollipop and that’s not so strange: Google gave in announcing Android M at very to have a good look at the features and solutions that Android manufacturers give their own skins.

Developers may incidentally also develop apps that do not disturb mode on and off, while you can think of automation -apps as Tasker or Llama. Here the user must confirm permission.

Two calls in 15 minutes

The other options bring opportunities for setting the priority, and do not disturb ‘mode all aan’ . Thus, times, schedules (eg weekends) can be set to activate. Herein, some apps to be added and whether it is even possible to establish that if someone rings twice within 15 minutes, to let it come through this phone.

Google has been trying to clear the settings and create manageable for everyone. There is a lot of work, but perhaps there is now an overkill for the not-so-experienced user. Whether that’s true remains to be seen going into practice. Below you can see how these new options.
