Ford pulls billion for self-propelled car – NOS

Automaker Ford attracts 1 billion dollars (900 million euros) for the acquisition of a start-up that specializes in self-propelled cars. The manufacturer aims for 2021, as a car can deliver.

Ford wanted to especially the founders of the company Argo AI upload: robot-experts Bryan Salesky, and Peter Rander. Salesky previously worked for Google on a self-propelled car, Rander did the same with Uber.

By working together with Ford to get Argo in one fell swoop, more capital and expertise in the field of cars. Salesky expects that before the end of the year 200 people in the company work.

Last summer, announced Ford boss Mark Fields announced that his company strives to be in five years a car without steering wheel or brake pedal to develop. That ambitious plan was to Ford the competition, for example, the tech company Uber and Google, which also work on a self-employed car.

Also the traditional car manufacturer General Motors has been working on a self-propelled car: last year, the company took 550 million euros to a company that it works.
