Google decides what we forget – Telegraaf.nl

Just a year ago the European Court ruled that the right people have to be forgotten. The ruling Google plays a role where it has never asked for and who, as they say, never wanted to play. Decide what we can and can not forget

.

Over the past year, Google has had to remove more than 250,000 requests were related more than 920,000 left. Google has honored 32 percent of the requests and rejected 50 percent. About 15 percent of the Internet giant still under consideration, reports The Wall Street Journal reported.

Decision

Recently, Google’s briefed legal chief, Peter Fleischer, at a privacy conference in Berlin a corner of the veil on how Google determines whether a request is honored or not. Every Wednesday is a team of developers, product managers and legal advisors met to consider the requests received. Their decision depends on several considerations, including whether the law is more important:. The privacy rights of the individual or the public right to information

The European Court gives its verdict but little direction should be treated how requests . It only reports the results need to be removed if they refer to the information inadequate, irrelevant, exaggerated or obsolete.

Criteria

Google itself has established a number of criteria to determine when search results be removed. Thus the scope for public figures is much smaller. Crimes committed long ago – and whose data have now been deleted from criminal records – are likely to be removed

Fleischer showed in Berlin know that many requests are simple things.. “The little shoplifting and other petty crime. They come over, we forget them and go on. “The more difficult cases end up with the Google panel which may be outside experts involved. Google employees discuss each case and then vote. According to Fleischer, there is usually a large majority for or against a decision. “But there are also cases where we were heavily divided.”

If Google rejects a delete request, people can go to their national privacy watchdog steps to assess the request. When the privacy authority determines that the request is justified, it will take direct contact with Google. However, the Authority may also consider that Google’s decision was correct
