Malware preinstalled on phones’ – Telegraaf.nl

BADHOEVEDORP –

Researchers at G Data’ve seen on over 26 different Android phones pre-installed malware. These include devices for well-known brands such as Huawei, Lenovo and Xiaomi

.

This malware allows the user to be spied on, Ads can be displayed, the camera can be turned on, sound can be recorded and the malware can download and install additional software. According to G Data malware ends up usually on the phone because an unreliable retailer is in the chain from factory to consumer.

“Of course we have, where possible, been in touch with the manufacturers of the infected models. This give to their supply chains by informing their procedures safer to aim at. Owners of smartphones remain still wise to check their device with a malware scanner for the presence of malware, “the researchers advise G Data.

’30 .000 Infected apps on Google Play ‘- Telegraaf.nl

BLOOMINGTON –

Researchers at the University of Indiana have a special tool within a short period 30 000 infected apps in Google Play, found the official appwinkel Google. MassVet, as the scanner is called, can scan at a rapid pace hundreds of thousands of apps

.

MassVet analyzes the apps do not. They are compared with applications already present in appwinkels. According to the researchers, most malware is in fact repackaged apps. These are existing applications which are manipulated by malicious persons and are equipped in this way with malware.

MassVet analyzed 400 000 apps on Google Play. Of those, 30 000 (7.6 per cent of the offer) infected. According to the researchers, this differs with figures of Google. According to the Internet giant was Android Users who only apps from Google Play installed on less than 0.15 percent of the aircraft detected a potentially dangerous application.

VirusTotal

The researchers have tested MassVet total of 1.2 million apps in 33 different markets. The scanner proved to apps within 10 seconds, assess and outperforming over 54 virus scanners on VirusTotal. Of the 1.2 million verified apps there were about 127 000 malicious. Moreover, most virus scanners on VirusTotal appeared 34 000 apps with malware not even have recognized as such. Some of the apps with malware proved quite popular and millions of times to be installed.

Police: site inaccessible by photo body – Telegraaf.nl

THE HAGUE –

An oversized photo that was viewed simultaneously by many people. Thus, the police website was unreachable for hours Sunday, police says. The problems have been resolved and the site is again accessible politie.nl

.

 Photo: Peter schoonen

This is a photo of a body was found Friday in a suitcase in the Meuse in Maastricht. The suitcase was Tuesday thrown into the river. The police made the figure public Sunday because investigators still do not know who the victim is and that she is deceased. The call for information was also distributed in Belgium and Germany. “It was a big picture, many megabytes. The story was also viewed by thousands of people. We have reduced the picture, and that seems to work. The site is stable, “said a police spokeswoman said.

The photo was published Sunday around 15:30. An hour later the site from the air. Because of the failure was not possible to report via the internet. The emergency numbers 112 and 0900 to 8844 were just reached.

DDoS

Initially, the police spoke of a so-called Distributed Denial of Service attack (DDoS). In addition, attackers send a large amount of traffic to specific servers simultaneously. That pressure can not touch or be temporarily unavailable. The police does not exclude that there was not yet out of a combination: that the site was attacked at the same time that others would read the story about the found body. Technical examination Monday should make that clear.

Earlier this month, cable operator Ziggo was the victim of a major DDoS attack. Customers could hardly the Internet. The site of the Volkskrant was unattainable and a half hours after a cyber attack

TU / e opens lab for research on wireless – Computable

<- googleoff: index -> <- googleon: index ->

The number of devices connected wirelessly, will in the years to come explosively increasing, including through the internet of things . Alone in each house will involve dozens of devices and sensors. For that wireless communication all at once, quick and error-free run smoothly, new technology is needed. The TU / e has therefore built new laboratories, CWTe Labs, which will be officially opened Monday, August 31, 2015

.

CWTe stands for the Center for Wireless Technology Eindhoven, the bundled TU / e knowledge of wireless technology. The new labs of CWTe along about seven hundred square meters, covering virtually the entire eighth floor of the new university building Flux. “We have the most integrated wireless lab in Europe, ‘says CWTe director and professor Peter Baltus. “We have all the labs and disciplines together that you need to study wireless systems as a whole, and that’s quite unique.”

Canned lab

A special feature of the laboratory is, inter alia, that they are completely electromagnetically shielded from the outside world, in order to avoid distortions, for example, by telephone traffic. “We have the entire lab or less canned,” says Baltus. Thanks to use of special windows, which are against electromagnetic fields, there is enough daylight. Further, the temperature is fully stable and there is substantially no static electricity. All this to ensure accurate and reliable measurements.

The CWTe working on a number of major research programs. One of them aims to achieve in 2020 Wi-Fi 1 Tb (1 terabit, or 1 000 Gb) per second. That is about a thousand times faster than the current Wi-Fi. This is sorely needed, says Professor Baltus, because there are more and more wireless devices on the network, and all of which must be quickly connected and they should also not interfere with each other. “Faster, cheaper and more efficient, which is what we continue to work,” the director CWTe

Wireless Sensors

.

There appear alongside more Devices also newcomers led by the network: wireless sensors. Tiny, inexpensive sensors that require little or no power. They get their energy from the radio waves from the wireless network. The development of these types of sensors is the second major CWTe research program. For example miniscule temperature sensors, which measure the temperature in each room, where no thread is involved in.

The third major focus of CWTe is the development of terahertz technology. Terahertz stands for thousand billion cycles per second. With this promising electromagnetic frequencies, the researchers hope to develop small and inexpensive technology, such as its sharp medical imaging and weapon detection.

The CWTe Labs not only for personal use by the TU / e. Companies can also make use of it. Baltus “We hope that more companies will do research with us.”

Polar Bear Knut, once the main attraction of the zoo in Berlin, appears not deceased to a viral infection. The polar bear was suffering from a rare autoimmune disease that has never before been identified in animals. That German scientists unveil Thursday in the scientific journal Scientific Reports.

The disease caused a encephalitis causing Knut had seizures. One attack was fatal. On March 19, 2011, visitors could see how confused the bear turned laps before he fell into the water and drowned his stay.

Flu
abp=”1350″ The autopsy revealed that Knut had encephalitis. The veterinarians thought a long time that this was the result of a virus infection, but failed to find the responsible pathogen. Knut have appeared had the flu, could be dead according to the researchers explain.

When brain scientist Harald Prüss read the autopsy report of Knut, he saw similarities with its findings in the study of brain diseases in humans.

In the future treatment can prevent the death of many animals

Alex Greenwood, animal expert

It was Prüss that the antibodies in Knuts blood were similar to the antibodies which he studied in 2010 in people with unexplained encephalitis. He enlisted the help of Alex Greenwood, animal expert Knut had examined earlier.

Slices brains
abp=”1366″ They examined the slices brains of the polar bear who all this time had been preserved, the presence of antibodies. They discovered that Knut antibodies in his brains had antibodies that were very similar to those of people with so-called anti-NMDA receptor encephalitis. A disease in which own antibodies attack the brains.

Since 2007 is known to be an inflammation of the brain in humans does not always have to be caused by a virus or a bacterium, but also may be the result of an autoimmune reaction. Normally antibodies protect from intruders, but in autoimmune antibodies attack the individual’s immune system’s own cells.

The condition is according to Greenwood on treating people well. ,, In the future, the treatment could also be given to animals, ” he says in The Guardian. ,, Thus, the death of many animals can possibly be avoided. “” Because Knut before his sudden death showed no obvious symptoms, Greenwood does not think that Knut could have been saved.

A symposium, where Foreign Minister Bert was Koenders at present, the expedition ended.

Content
Although some sites could not be visited because there were polar bears, is scientific expedition leader Martin Loonen very satisfied. The main study site, Kapp Lee on the island Edgeøya, has been extensively studied, there is a weather station placed on a glacier, almost all researchers – at least partly -. Can do what they were planning

most outstanding preliminary results are the huge differences that are found in the vegetation at Kapp Lee. Which is mapped by Dutch extensively in 1977. In comparison, the shift is spectacular. Plants and mosses are much more developed, suggesting that the growing season has lengthened by East Spitsbergen.

Back
René van der Wal, of the University of Aberdeen, vegetation that normally does research on West Spitsbergen has never seen such big differences. He is eager to look at Edgeøya. ,, It must be very strange if I did not go back there. ”

Also Loonen normally geese researcher, helped with the mapping of vegetation. ,, The collaboration between the disciplines was amazing. “” He warns against premature conclusions. ,, We are three days spent there. Now it begins. ”

Loonen sees the expedition as a starting point. In nine days you can not complete a survey. He hopes that this was the beginning of more cooperation, new applications for polar research and the continuation of pilots who have done this trip.

According to David Marcus, vice director of the messaging section of Facebook, M is in contrast to other virtual assistants in a completely independent way tasks the user can handle.

“The assistant can shop, gifts deliver, restaurants or book trips, appointments and much more,” Marcus noted in a Facebook post. Marcus since last year working for Facebook. Previously, he was chief executive at the payment service PayPal.

User Data must M intelligent

M is currently under tested a number of Facebook users in California. A team of Facebook engineers is working on training the virtual assistant and will intervene when users ask more complex questions, so they occasionally can get a human response from the assistant.

Currently the assistant will take into account only the information the user empowering him. In time, however, it is likely to keep the virtual assistant can also make use of the massive amounts of data that Facebook possesses about its users. This would M quickly be more intelligent than the virtual assistants of Apple and Microsoft.

Facebook is highly committed to its Messenger application, because the company hopes the application a new source of income could be. Therefore, the company bought last year at a cost of $ 22 billion competing chat service WhatsApp.

On social media, Google gets the blame revenues (advertising via apps) to find important then the security of iOS users. Commenting let Google know by now that it is not at all the case, but that it is a stopgap is for developers who really can not manage with Apple’s protocol. The company denies that it wants to undermine the safety of users.

Re / code has reservations about it. It writes that Google is simply more willing to make concessions because it earns money with AdWords ads in apps. Apple is different, the company earns money from the sale of software, hardware and services.
