Volkskrant and Middendorp provide an excuse for very embarrassing error column on transport of Jews from Westerbork during
WWII.
Columnist Peter Middendorp wrote in his column, that there are no Jews were transported in cattle cars from Westerbork to extermination camps, but were used for this purpose passenger cars. Something is demonstrably wrong and that resulted in many angry reactions to the column.
The reason for writing the column was the message that there was a cattle wagon purchased for exhibition in Camp Westerbork.
Midendorp says ashamed afterwards for his column. “I apologize to the newspaper, the reader and especially Memorial Center Camp Westerbork and the director, Mr. Mulder,” said Middendorp
