Before warn US researchers in the British newspaper The Guardian.

Researchers from the University of California examined what happens to mice when exposed to radiation with certain particles that contain a lot of energy. The animals appeared to function less well because their nervous system is affected.

“That’s not good news for astronauts sent to Mars on a two- or three-year trip,” said researcher Charles Limoli.

On Mars astronauts have namely a similar charge particles to their ears. Their ability to do research is therefore affected negatively and cause permanent damage in the long term.

According to the researchers, the risk is not insurmountable, but it needs to be recognized and addressed before people to the Red Planet can.
