‘Movement less effective than thought in depression’ – NU.nl

In this PhD thesis Nikolaos Stavrakakis Monday at the University of Groningen, says the newspaper.

There are large individual differences and the correlation is weak. Also, some people feel after physical exertion sometimes even worse. Therefore, there is no scientific basis to exercise or move to enter as a therapy to treat depression or prevented.

Optimistic studies have previously concluded that reduce depressive symptoms in adults through exercise and sports. These effects are small, says Stavrakakis. They occur not long at all before. The studies ignore the question of cause and effect
