Facebook Messenger is a platform. This messenger is not only a standalone app, but a whole ecosystem in which other applications can be integrated.
Apps integration in Messenger
One of the biggest changes is that it is possible to integrate apps into Messenger. So you can start apps within the app. Examples presented at the conference were given mainly American, like ESPN and The Weather Channel. This allows you the latest positions of your favorite sports team retrieval, or again in an hour.
Purchases Messenger
It is also possible to make purchases directly in Messenger. Facebook thereby gives the example that you make an appointment with someone to go to the cinema. It should then be possible to reserve the same movie tickets through Messenger and pay.
Payment System
Facebook in the past year has been busy implementing a payment system. For example, that can be linked to PayPal, but banks can also develop their own system. In this way it should be theoretically possible to pay with iDeal from Messenger.
Developers
course developers should therefore be able to build apps. Pathé that could for example do in the Netherlands. Messenger for such apps will have its own app store. Facebook has its own developers kit released to developers can get to work.
Support
It is also possible to communicate with companies via Messenger. Who can link their own customer service to the special Messenger API, allowing customers to chat with a representative.
Future of WhatsApp
In the meantime, just the opposite happens with WhatsApp. WhatsApp has always said that it remains free of ads, and then other apps do not go to the service to work. That will remain true, said Brian Acton, the co-founder of WhatsApp.
Now Facebook Messenger are going to use in a different way, WhatsApp have to focus only on the chat. Acton also says WhatsApp time being mainly focus on the development of the product. That does include a web client and a chime that works for all platforms – also on iOS.
