Man controls robotic arms with his brains – NieuwsUit.com

Man with two amputated arms could use both arms again by controlling them with his brains. By thinking of movements the man can control both robotic arms.

After surgery and a course of 10 days, it is the American Les Baugh succeeded with his brains to drive both robot arms. Baugh hit, forty years ago, in an accident lost both arms. It is him now for the first time succeeded in itself to get something with ‘his’ arms.

What makes it quite unique is that both the American arms can operate simultaneously and can give different commands. Simply stated operate the robotic arms as follows: Scientists have studied the brain patterns arise at the thought of certain movements of the arms. This they have programmed into the robot arms and when the user these brain patterns emerge, the poor start to move independently.

Les Baugh managed not only to get a large number of commands to master, he did It also does so in a very short time

I am then in fact the computer
-. says Baugh

Side note is that Les Baugh so far only in a lab to practice with his robotic arms. Here they help put him with it in the correct position of the fingers, wrists and elbows. This costs still quite a lot of time and effort. But the beginning of a new applicable technology is definitely born, so is the opinion of both the scientists and Les Baugh himself.
