Google wants to install Android in cars – ZDNet.be

Google is working on an Android version designed specifically to function as infotainment system in automobiles.

The system should reach beyond the already existing system Android car. At present, Android Car a layer that runs on top of the systems built by car manufacturers. But according to Reuters Google wants eventually to replace such systems.

Reuters relies on sources within Google, who wish to remain anonymous. Google itself does not respond.

If the plan a success would android sometimes the standard can be used for entertainment and navigation. This gives Google a strong foothold in a new market where it will compete with rival Apple. Several car manufacturers have earlier this year joined in the Open Automotive Alliance. This alliance aims to develop Android for faster car.

By focusing on the automotive market Google can collect valuable information to feed its data-intensive business model. “There is access to the GPS location, which is stopped, where you go every day, your speed, your fuel consumption, and where you fill up,” said one of the sources. According to these sources, the system must, Android baptized M, appear on the market over a year.
