“MRI can give employee concentration problems” – NU.nl

It was already known that the magnetic field of an MRI scanner for nausea and a dizzy feeling can provide. There’s just more to it, Lotte van Nierop concludes in her thesis. Thursday she graduates at the University of Utrecht.

The drafting of new guidelines is complicated by weighing the advantages and disadvantages of the strong magnetic fields.

“When in a magnetic field moving can be a power generated in the brains, “Van Nierop said Thursday in the newspaper. “Brain cells communicate with each other by small streams. The magnetic field of the MRI scanner that disrupt normal communication in the brains.”

According Kristel Schaap, also a PhD student at the University of Utrecht, gives 28 percent of respondents are bothered by dizziness. “They also indicate that there is a metallic taste in the mouth.”

Precision

The new MRI scanners are available day and night, whatever the field strength of the magnets benefits . “But the benefits of the precision must be weighed against the disadvantages of a lower concentration of the people who work with it,” zegtVan Nierop.

The MRI staff can itself reduce the potential problems which by no quick movements making the scanner, thereby disturbing the electric currents are prevented. The patient has the least affected by the magnetic fields because they are stationary in the device.

Both Van Nierop as Schaap calls it difficult to say whether the existing Directives should be adapted. “The long-term effects have not been proven,” says Sheep. “For now.”
