Oracle and Google to court to code in Android – NU.nl

The mobile operating system Android is based on Java code. Google relies on the quote right to use parts of the code, but according copied Oracle’s code which should have been paid.

The two companies appear in court in San Francisco. An initial meeting was already in 2012, but in court judges could then not agree on a verdict.

Penalty

A new jury will determine if Google is indeed unlawful the code used. If jurors judge, then it is examined whether the engine maker must pay a fine.

Oracle Enterprise software engineer requires 8.8 billion dollars in compensation from Google. Oracle also wants to see a mechanism for the use of Android in the future. That can only determine the right.

Revenue

Oracle has calculated that Google has converted about $ 29 billion on advertising and other revenue from the use of the search engine on Android.

The revenue from app sales for Android smartphones would amount to $ 11.6 billion. Google would make such a 11.4 billion profit with Android. Oracle will have the lion’s share of it.

Overrated

Google has already know that the revenue and profit ‘overestimated’. Experts and market analysts expect Google suffered no major damage if the full fine must be paid.

Alphabet, parent company Google, continued in 2015 to $ 75 billion. A one-time fine would not cause much turmoil in the stock market, according to experts.

Effects

The consequences of a ruling against Google could have consequences in the tech world as it redefines given to copyright.

If parts of code covered by copyright, then there might be a lot of lawsuits for other companies. Taking over parts of codes is more common in the tech world
