Google’s Chromebooks, Android apps and Play Store – Techzine

Google will add the Google Play Store to Chrome OS, thereby getting Chromebook users access to all Android apps, which they can then install on their Chromebook. When Google Play Store will introduce exactly the Chromebooks is not yet clear, but later this year.

The rumors that the Android app would be going to Chrome OS already several months the round, but Google has now officially confirmed on the second day of Google I / O. Originally Google had planned to merge eventually Android and Chrome OS, that idea has been abandoned, the operating systems will continue to exist side by side. However, Google is trying to bring the app ecosystem on Android to ChromeOS, thereby getting the Chromebook users suddenly many more options.

All Android apps will be eventually available for Chromebooks, but developers can create their apps ready to take into account the large screen of a Chromebook and any mouse and keyboard input. It also means that the popular Microsoft Office suite will soon be available on Chromebooks. Something we several years ago certainly did not expect.

Google announced that it will not get all Chromebooks support for the Google Play Store, but only the most recent models, older models have less power.
