Error 53 occurs when the home button a iPhone 5S or a new model is being repaired by a third party. This button contains a fingerprint reader, and Apple is afraid that if this is changed, there may be tampered with is so important data can be intercepted by an attacker. To err on the side of caution, therefore the whole device unusable.
Although the intentions were good, the communication of this “feature” that failed and were many iPhone users furious because their device not worked. For this group of people Apple has put a new version of iOS system software online that can be put through a computer with iTunes on a “Tampering” iPhone.
