Nissan has a number of features of the app for its electric Leaf -auto’s disabled. It turned out namely to be fairly easy these functions – including turning on and off of the air conditioning -. To use remotely without the app
Security expert Troy Hunt noted that the communication between the app and a Leaf car was not encrypted and no user name or password was to customize. The only thing that is needed to use the app-functions, it is the so-called VIN number. This is a unique number that inherits any Leaf car and this is the fast read.
Using special software it is possible to communicate with Leaf and include the air conditioning on or off put. Also read how full the battery and when the car was last visited. This could determine a malicious when someone has gone far and turn on the AC to use up the last remnants of power.
To prevent this, Nissan has now decided to make the app ‘harmless’ with an update. The functions will be restored if the company has developed better security for the car
