Review: Alcatel OneTouch Watch – Telegraaf.nl

Alcatel is a brand that can not be named or defined hip popular be. Many name will even little or nothing to say. That keeps the French telecommunications company not like to also bring their own smart watch on the market. But the OneTouch Watch can be strong competition to

Hardware
At first glance looks OneTouch is nice with its circular shape. The smart watch (available in black or white) has a metal box with a rubber band. However, if you look at the accessory goes well, there is a thing to criticize. So I do not flat enough the case with a thickness of 10.5mm, although it 2mm thinner than the Apple Watch. It’s a problem many smart watches are struggling. The cabinet also looks great with its brushed metal appearance, does all the font of the numbers that cheap. In addition, you do not have to fear water or dust thanks to the IP 67 certification.

The problem of OneTouch Watch lies for me especially in the strap. This is in fact quite stiff, making it uncomfortable to wear the watch. The strap you can not replace, so you are literally and figuratively stuck to. Also adjust it’s not going smoothly. I had to grab a knife to pop the clip so I could move the closure. The reason of the rigid strap comes in that the charger has been incorporated. At the end of the strap is a cover behind which the USB port is located. The advantage is that you do not have to bring cable in case the smart watch is running low. In any USB port of a computer or USB adapter can be recharged. Incidentally, the battery lasts 3.5 days with. That’s less than Pebble, but longer than most other smart watches that take the end of the day but net.

The resolution of the OneTouch Watch is 240 by 204 pixels not to mention very impressive, but the colors are bright and everything is legible. Given the limited scope of the watch is a higher resolution not really necessary, but more on that later. Like the Moto 360 is the circular screen at the bottom flattened, which nevertheless detracts from the appearance. The screen is not always on, so if you want to see the time, you have to run over the top with your wrist. Unfortunately this does not work very well, so sometimes you have to move your arm three times before the display. The on / off button on the side button actually goes faster. The smart watch contains no other light sensor. The screen does not automatically adjusts to light in the environment. You can manually adjust the brightness of the menu.

The other specifications can be found here.

Software
can both OneTouch Watch iPhone to be used as Android devices. There are few smart watches that can do that. The watch works with smartphones running Android 4.3 or iOS 7 and higher. Alcatel One uses its own operating software OneTouch Move. So the smart watch does not work on Android Wear.

The ministry works simple. Tap the screen to open the menu and swipe left and right through the options around. To return, tap the black patch under the screen. Swipe up ensures that you see the notifications. There are however to watch but three clocks available (two analog and one digital). They show only the time and the date. The possibilities are limited. Through the accompanying OneTouch Move app on the smartphone, you can do the dial choose individual or before selecting a personal photograph.

If you turn on the screen you can see briefly a meter that indicates how full the battery is still . Furthermore, you will see the Bluetooth sign in the picture. To let you know if there is a connection to the smartphone. It strikes me that too often disconnected. Then it remains remarkably quiet with the notifications. The cause of instability is not clearly named. It’s certainly very annoying when you are expecting an important message.

Notifications
The notifications do not show the whole message, but only the first lines. It’s enough to quickly check whether it is worth to pick up the phone there. The messages are classified. The notifications for new e-mail are not between the WhatsApp notifications. That’s nice. By swiping left and right move you between the classified reports.

The disadvantage is that the notifications are not as a pop-up will appear on the OneTouch Watch. The smart watch vibrates when you receive something, but you have to swipe up to see what is the message. That’s actually just an act too much. Furthermore, you can do anything with the notifications. You can not delete the message and you can not immediately delete any email or archive. Only if you read on the phone the conscious or WhatsApp-mail message, the message of the watch disappears.

Apps
It is not possible to extra apps Installing the OneTouch Watch. You have to rely on the default apps Alcatel itself. The capabilities of the watch are therefore limited. The following apps are present: a pedometer, compass, clock, weather, and a heart rate monitor apps for controlling the camera and music. On these last two is noticing necessary to. On the iPhone, it is not possible to immediately take a picture simply by pressing the smart watch. Before OneTouch Move it on your phone open. Not quite so handy. In the music app you can simply enter a track forward or backward, but the option to adjust the sound level is cumbersome. Wipe it in a circle on the screen, the volume goes up or down. This option responds very slow, probably due to the slow communication via Bluetooth to your smartphone.

Your smartphone stores all fitness information OneTouch Move. There you can see exactly how many steps you’ve walked, how long you’ve moved, the distance you have traveled, how many calories you’ve burned and how long you slept. The latter will remain empty in many people. Not very many people sleep at night with their watch, and certainly not so uncomfortable smart watch like this. Anyway, the OneTouch Watch has great apps to gather information about your daily exercise. On the smartphone, you can also create a profile that can store personal information and can set fitness goals.

Price and similar products
With a price of € 129 is OneTouch Watch at the bottom of the smart watch market. For use with the iPhone’s main competitors are the three watches of Pebble. The SmartWatch costs € 125, the Steel € 199 and the recently published Time € 249. The Apple Watch is priced from € 419 completely on the other end of the price spectrum. For Android devices, the smart watch competition from Motorola’s Moto 360 (€ 219), the LG Watch Urbane (€ 349) and the Samsung Gear S (€ 349).

Conclusion
The OneTouch Watch is a simple smart watch for a real low price. The irritating tape and of the limited possibilities in terms of apps it looks more like a glorified sport tire. But with the Alcatel gadget makes a nice first attempt to set a budget smart watch on the market. There is only still a lot to improve. With a slimmer watch wristband better, faster software and apps from third parties following a smart watch would be a lot further. The only question is who in the meantime buy these OneTouch Watch, because I would still rather recommend a Pebble or the Moto 360 if you want a cheaper smart looking watch with more functionality
