The Internet is too slow, the signal does not reach far enough. There is always something going on with the wifi connection. And it’s often not clear who takes the blame: the router or Telenet and Proximus? Google thinks it has the solution.
Google understands that Internet users want to pay high prices for a better wifi experience
There is quite some money waiting for whom the “WiFi problem” can solve. The American all-in-one system Eero took in barely a week one million dollars in orders with a simple promise: we make your Wi-Fi network better. Nobody knows whether the system works and the first orders will be delivered until the end of this year, but demand was massive.
Google understands that Internet users want to reach into their pockets for a better wifi experience. The search giant will end this month with its own router, in collaboration with the experienced company TP-Link. According to Google, its OnHub router very easy to set up. For $ 200 to make the device your network more reliable and faster, the search giant promises.
The design immediately jumps in the eye. There are no visible external antennas, as with other routers sometimes the case. All the magic happens inside a handsome cylindrical box. The router in black and blue version might just be able to fit into your interior.
Google also wants the router is given a prominent place in the house. “A router on the shelves cabinet performs twice as good than if you leave it on the ground,” product manager Trond Wuellner explains to Wired. The long cylindrical shape also prevents users put stuff on top of the router, something that could disrupt the signal.
Powerhouse
The router has thirteen antennas that ensure a strong Wi-Fi signal. That’s quite a lot. Six antennas amplify the 2.4 GHz band, six other 5GHz band. One antenna even notice interference from other nearby devices. A total of up to 128 devices can be connected to the router
Another focus of the OnHub:. Extensive, but simplistic app for Android and iOS that allows the router to configure. You can check the signal at various points in the house and you can even prioritize certain devices, so that a heavy download does not drag down the Netflix connection. You can also see who’s active on the network and where there are any problems.
The OnHub has a USB 3.0 connection on board and there is support for Bluetooth Smart Ready, Weave and Zigbee / Thread. So the router in the future can be a central place for other smart devices that can connect to the router.
The OnHub will soon be available in the United States and Canada for almost $ 200, or more than 181 euro. Include Google, Amazon and Walmart offer him there. About coming to Belgium, Google has still not released. Presumably, the router will eventually get here, because there are going to release more hardware manufacturers OnHub routers in the future.
