That Samsung is a bad autumn was already known, but research firm Gartner has that been confirmed yet again. The electronics giant sold in the months of July, August and september, much less phones than in the same period last year. The sales went up by 14.2 percent decline.
That means the largest verkoopdaling ever at the manufacturer, says the market researcher. In amounts of the order of 12 million phones less. This has everything to do with the fiasco surrounding the Galaxy Note 7. The device, which in the summer was announced, it appeared at the end of August a fire hazard.
Attempts to solve this problem, helped not enough, Samsung in mid-October with the sale of the unit is stopped. The result was a substantial decline.
Good decision
“Samsung’s decision to stop using the phone was good,” writes Gartner. “But the image ensures that Samsung the short-term difficult to get. It is for Samsung of great importance that the Galaxy S8 will be a success, so that customers trust is retained.”
Despite the fiasco with the Note 7 remains Samsung is the market leader. The company sold in the third quarter, nearly 72 million devices. Apple sold compared to last year, three million phones less. That’s why it seems the iPhone manufacturer have little to benefit from the elimination of the Note 7. That can still change in the current quarter, where the christmas sales are taken into account.
Spot failed
Apple is in the overview on place two, with 43 million sold phones. But officially, Apple is a town of fallen. The Chinese BBK Electronics is bigger; that is the owner of ‘Oppo’, a company that in the summary of Gartner los is taken into account. This company is good for 44.8 million machines, a million more than Apple, and thus its market share has doubled compared to last year.
