Tech pioneer and former Intel CEO Andy Grove (79) deceased – NU.nl

This has Intel on Monday night announced on its website.

Grove was born andas Gróf in Budapest, shortly before the start of World War II. After Hungary was occupied by Soviet Russia he emigrated to study to the United States in 1956. After a period at the Berkeley university, he ended up in Silicon Valley.

He collaborated with Gordon Moore in the early chipmaker Fairchild Semiconductor. When Moore along with Robert Noyce founded Intel, Grove was their first employee.

In 1979, Grove was the president of Intel and in 1987 he was appointed CEO. In 1998 he left his position as director due to an illness, but he remained until 2004, still active as chairman of the board at Intel.

Under the leadership of Grove was Intel one of the largest companies in the world, after he shifted the focus of producing memory chips for making processors.

That led to the success of computer chips as the 386, 486 and Pentium. The chipmaker grew enormously when it was attractive for consumers to create a home computer.

In 1997, Grove by Time Magazine named ‘Man of the Year’. could be read on the cover of the magazine, “His microchips have changed the world – and the economy.”

Grove also wrote several books on management and leadership. The most famous of which was named after his personal motto, Only the paranoid survive.

several other prominent figures from the tech sector have their respect for Grove show. Apple CEO Tim Cook called him on Twitter “one of the giants of the technology world.” “He loved our country and stood for the best of America.”

According to Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella was Grove “a pioneer, a leader and a great teacher.”

is not disclosed to which Grove is deceased, but he suffered for some time from Parkinson’s disease
