InSight Mars Lander still airborne after setback over two years – Scientias.nl

Happy: delay is not adjustable! Mars Lander InSight is – two years later than planned – in 2018 still in the air, so NASA announces

The robotic lander should have actually launched this year, but last year it became clear. that we launch but soon had to turn our heads. There was a problem with one of the main instruments aboard the lander – Seismic Experiment for Interior Structure

. >

That launch immediately moves so late is because there once was a time in the 26 months in which – in view of the position of Mars – is beneficial to send a mission to Mars on the way <. /> p>

The launch was delayed, so there was more time to solve that problem. And now there is officially elected a new moment to launch the lander. occurs for a period from May 5, 2018 in which launching is possible (see box). Expected to arrive the lander then on November 26 2018 on Mars.

“We are excited that we are back on the right road, the road to the launch which will now take place in 2018,” let John Grunsveld behalf of NASA know. We expect to learn much more through InSight Mars Lander on the Red Planet. The lander will even to us – for the first time – tell more about the interior of Mars. Namely by up to about 4.5 meters deep to drill the red planet. Mars InSight will include the heat coming from the interior of the planet, measuring and research into Mars Earthquakes.
