New InSight lander to Mars in 2018 – NU.nl

That should drill into the Martian surface and studying the interior of the planet. That must learn more about the origin and evolution of planets like Mars and Earth.

The US space agency NASA announced the new launch date Wednesday. It is intended that leaves the lander on May 5, 2018 and arrive on November 26 of that year.

The launch was originally planned for this month, but had to be postponed due to a leak in a key instrument aboard .

InSight can not drive. The United States had already spent four carts to Mars: Sojourner, Spirit, Opportunity and Curiosity. Europe and Russia are also working together on a Mars mission. Next week will be a lander and launched a satellite, a moving scout follow in 2018.
