O p the Google home state Monday a picture of the famous Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow. This is silent on the 240th anniversary of the theater.
The current theater is, moreover, not 240 years old. What’s today or 240 years ago, is the foundation of the company behind the theater. Prince Pyotr Vasilyevich Urusov and Michael Maddox founded this company on March 28, 1776 on. Performances were initially just performed in living rooms. Later, the two men the Petrovka Theatre in the city on creating performances could be held in a real theater.
The Petrovka Theatre was destroyed by fire in 1805. Three years later a new theater was erected there in 1812 but the city was set on fire because of the arrival of Napoleon. The brand new theater was lost.
Between 1821 and 1824 a new theater was built. In 1825 it was opened theater designed by Andrei Mikhailov as the Bolshoi Petrovsky Theater. Initially there were only operas and ballets staged by Russians, but from about 1840 were foreigners welcome
Between 2005 and 2011 the famous theater was extensively restored.
