Online poker players in the cards examined by virus – NU.nl

writes cybersecurity researcher Robert Lipovsky in a blog. The malware is hidden in programs that people need help online poker with better games, like poker calculators and player databases.

The malware is aimed at poker players who play the card game from the popular sites PokerStars and Full Tilt Poker. The malicious code hiding on affected computers and wait until the victim goes to one of these two sites.

Then the virus starts screenshots of the maps of the affected player with also a unique player identifier to send. Then the attacker searches the game that plays on the hit poker player and joins it. Seeing the cards of the opponent, the attacker then has a considerable advantage.

Most of the victims are residents of eastern European countries in general and Russians and Ukrainians in particular. In total, several hundred people infected. It is not known whether there are between Dutch
