Leak in iOS 9 gives access to photos and contacts of locked iPhone – NU.nl

That Youtube user Jose Rodriguez said in a video. Rodriguez discovered over two years ago, a similar flaw in iOS 6.

The new vulnerability allows malicious attackers via Siri can access the contacts and pictures such as a locked iPhone. The attack only works when the iOS device is locked with a PIN code. If a password is set, the device is not vulnerable.

Siri

Rodriguez shows that he entered the wrong PIN four times. At the fifth attempt he fills only three of the four digits and press it and hold the Home button to launch Siri as he entered the fourth grade.

At that time opens voice assistant Siri while the iPhone is still is locked. Siri nevertheless gives access to, for example contacts and photos and messages can be sent.

Solution

Several US tech sites say that they can mimic the actions. However, the problems appear to be resolved in the test version iOS 9.0.1 and 9.1. Apple rolls out iOS 9.0.1 since Thursday morning.

Users of iOS 9 next update can bypass the vulnerability by setting a password or by Siri disable the lock screen via Settings Touch ID & amp; Password .

Previous problems

iOS 9 was released last week and Apple said this week that already 50 percent of iOS users are or would have her phone updated . However it is not the first time Apple is facing a vulnerability in the locking system. That already happened with iOS 7, 6 and 4
