The first Zenwatch ASUS had besides a low price a very beautiful design, which is ultimately very important for a smart watch. So we were very curious about the successor of the watch, and were there during the IFA fair in Berlin get to work.
The Zenwatch two similar in design very similar to its predecessor, but that is what we are concerned not mind: The Zenwatch was a nice watch. The major difference is the metal crown on the side of the watch. Unlike ‘ordinary’ watches can you not run, but it is only intended to express it. You put thereby the watch, and you can take it back to the dial. So not very exciting, but it does ensure that the ZenWatch 2 looks more like a real watch. In addition, a “crown” a more convenient location than the back where the button was on the first ZenWatch
Two sizes
The Zenwatch 2 comes in two sizes:. A version that is roughly the same size as the first ZenWatch having a size of 49×41 mm and a smaller version with a size of 45 x 37 mm. In the Netherlands, both versions have a silver casing. The smallest version is however still larger than the largest Apple Watch. In terms of information displayed makes no farther off, both OLED screens have a resolution of 320 x 320 pixels. That is a lower resolution than other smart watches, but also are more expensive. It resembles the larger variant to the same screen as in the first embodiment. That screen we found disappointing in terms of brightness and lijtk out that this also applies to these ZenWatch 2
ASUS seems the smaller model to focus on women -. Says the company does not think so. However, it is the soft pink color of the small model, and the dark leather color of the large model, which reveal that there are indeed two groups for the watch.
Stylish
The combination of the case and leather strap makes the ZenWatch two stylish. At the stand of ASUS also saw other bands of metal and rubber, but these are not (yet) to the Netherlands. Blue or pink not not quite your thing, you can easily remove the standard strap and attach their own wristband.
Personal dials
The watch runs on Android Wear it now also suitable for co-operation with iOS. Besides the normal clutch ASUS has made an Android app for the ZenWatch 2. With the app you can easily change the dial. You can also at some dials simple display more information than standard is the case and you can for example battery life, walking steps, see at a glance the time and appointments. Changing the dial is however anyway not so troublesome in android wear, but the extra app is a nice addition.
Completion & gt; replacement
In contrast to the previous model is the Zenwatch two really intended to supplement your smartphone, rather than a replacement. Gezondsheids apps level meters (such as a heart rate monitor and a ‘stress meter’) are not in the new model. We think that’s not so bad – the function of the original model is not very good and felt something superfluous. The pedometer is a lot more useful, so we are glad that not only is in the model, but is even better.
(Provisional) conclusion
The ZenWatch 2 looks good, definitely when you know it’s a lot cheaper with a price of 169 euro than most other android wear smart watches. He also still costs less than the first ZenWatch which was not very expensive. Both the regular and the smaller variant is equally expensive. For that money you get a smart-looking smart watch with a leather strap. The biggest downside looks just like its predecessor the screen that had some brighter may be. The price makes up for it. The larger variant in October to buy while the smaller version later on this year.
