Previously, parents had more kids than now. A family with four children is now the exception rather than the rule. Research now shows that families with four children still are the happiest.

The Australian researchers followed for five years families of different composition and size. During the study, respondents were asked about their continued confidence, resilience, social safety net and overall satisfaction. The target was a decision to make about which families were most satisfied.

The researchers gave advance that they expected that families fewer children would be the happiest. Their research showed the opposite. The highest satisfaction score was found in people with four or more children.

Despite the chaotic larger families and are more expensive than households with fewer members, the happiness shows that each child contributes to compensate amply. Additional advantage: children of large families are relatively independent at an earlier age than children from smaller families; and there is almost always someone around to play with.

The study does not prove that to the family necessarily leads to happiness. Parents of large families indicated that they always wanted a large family. The happiness formula appeared to apply only to parents who were already planning to raise a large family.
