Friday presented the National Public Transport Council (NOVB) their vision for the coming years. By entering trips on debit card or mobile phone they want an end to check in, check out and travel on balance.

The public transport smartcard is now over a year the only legal tender in the public transport. Since the abolition of the ticket have had the card a lot of criticism, partly because rail travelers “to distraction” would be the mandatory Check. That is why the NOVB with plans to make transport easier to use.

What could I pay?

With your debit or smartphone. The NOVB wants to introduce the same system as London, where travelers with their debit card can ‘Check’. In June, the tourist association ANWB came with a travel card that worked on the same principle as a credit card.

Traveling with the smartphone is not a new idea. NS CEO Timo Huges said in 2014 that study was done in this direction. According to the AD the smartphone traveler will afterwards an SMS to get the trip data and costs.

Do I have to be more in charge no balance?

No. If you choose to travel with your debit card, there will be attained by direct debit money from your account. The smartphone will be linked to your bank account, so even with this you can pay later.

The NOVB recognizes that traveling on taking more risks entails then traveling on balance. Therefore, the new ideas are tested first.

What should I do with my OV-chip card?

That you can just keep. All opportunities to continue to travel by public transport smartcard exist. According to the carriers, most travelers are indeed satisfied with the ease of use.

The innovations are seen as improvements and expansions of opportunities, not as replacements.

No more-Out

The NOVB speaks of “ beacons : devices that can see through bluetooth technology who is nearby. In this way, the presence in the train automatically registered and penalties for missed or to check out the past.

This year, another trial starts between Amersfoort and Ede-Wageningen, where train passengers no longer need to check in and out when switching to another carrier.

When innovations are made?

First, it will travel to be tested for bank card, then traveling on mobile phone. The studies will begin this year

If the results are good, the new payment options in the course of 2016 be made available to everyone
