Applause when New Horizons reaches Pluto – Dutch Newspaper

Applause and cheers broke loose when the spacecraft New Horizons Tuesday at a distance of about 12,500 kilometers along Pluto flew. That is the farthest planet of our solar system, about 5 billion kilometers from Earth.

On January 19, 2006 New Horizons was launched with the aim to investigate Pluto. NASA expects unique images of the body, but the first of them will only be transmitted in the course of Wednesday to earth.
