10 days: the first map made of Pluto – Scientias.nl

Scientists have pictures of the New Horizons spacecraft used to create a map of Pluto. It is the most detailed map so far. This record will probably soon die because the New Horizons spacecraft to Pluto closer every day.

Pluto resembles a little color on Mars, which is reddish-brown. Yet astronomers believe that both planets in a different manner are colored red. Mars is red due to iron oxide, popularly called ‘rust’. The red color of Pluto is caused by hydrocarbons, which occur during the interaction of cosmic rays and ultraviolet light from the sun with methane in the atmosphere and on the surface of Pluto.

It’s no surprise that Pluto is red . “Astronomers have argued for decades that the dwarf planet has a red glow and that’s true,” said principal investigator Alan Stern of the New Horizons project.

Movie
addition, color photos Pluto and Charon put tandem with the movie below as a result.

“It’s unusual to see so many details on the surface of both objects at this distance,” says researcher William McKinnon of the New Horizons project. “There is still a lot to wait.”

Crude photos
is very likely that new raw photos today appear on the site New Horizons. The last picture was added on July 1 and that’s too long ago. Tomorrow morning we post a new New Horizons update, hopefully with the new raw photos!

The New Horizons spacecraft on July 14 skims past Pluto and its moons. It is the first time the dwarf planet is visited by a spacecraft. Scientias.nl daily post an update containing the latest news about New Horizons and the most recent photos and videos. There is a special New Horizons theme page with the latest news.
