What does Windows 10? – PC World

In the last few months a lot of confusion about the cost of Windows 10. Is it now for free or not? Should you go still pay after the first year? And what about with users who have illegally downloaded a copy? To once and for all make clear we have put exactly underneath each other in this article what Windows 10 costs.

Windows 10 is free , if you within 12 months after launching upgrade from Windows 7, Windows 8 or Windows 8.1. If you still want to upgrade, you have to pay.

If you currently have Windows 7, or 8 is 8.1, you can free upgrade to Windows 10. You can do that until July 29, 2016 . If you after July 29, 2016 still have a system where you want to put Windows 10, you have to pay.

If you upgraded in the first year, Windows 10 remains in any event over the next 10 years old . Microsoft has always said that Windows 10 “the latest version of Windows”, and that it will not create new systems. Instead, the company is going to offer updates that Windows always a little better. It seems therefore not that you have to pay after that time still.

You can use Windows 10 so free . This is possible with or without (free) Microsoft account, such as an Outlook or Hotmail account. You can play an account, connect to your Mail and Calendar app, without additional costs.

When you can upgrade for free?

You can upgrade only free if you have a legitimate installation of Windows 7, Windows 8 or Windows 8.1. If you like Windows 7 of The Pirate Bay have picked and you upgrade to Windows 10, you still have the illegal version. You have to pay to purchase a genuine copy yet.

The cost of that upgrade is not yet known. It is estimated to around € 100, -. Per license, but that’s just guessing

Windows Insiders are lucky. If they use Windows Update to upgrade to the latest “build” (10240), then they free the final version of Windows 10.

Why is Windows 10 free?

“Nothing is free” is certainly on the Internet a true saying. Therefore it is something suspicious about which Windows 10 is “free.” Microsoft tries sometimes to monetize personalized ads such as Google? Whether there are features in Windows 10 which can only be used if you pay?

That is not the case. The truth is a bit trickier. If you want to know exactly how it is, we encourage you to read this article, which our colleagues from PCM explain exactly why Windows 10 is free.

In short, it means that Microsoft is scared lose market share, especially in the office environment. By the number of free alternatives (such as OpenOffice and LibreOffice but especially Google Drive and Dropbox) Microsoft has increasing difficulty in finding people willing to pay for an office suite. This happens only when many people as possible have an installation of Windows 10. Microsoft has therefore to offer benefit as many installations of Windows 10 – and that works best if it is free

Microsoft also hopes. apps and software that people are going to buy in the store. The cost of a Microsoft app gets 30% – the same as what Apple does with the App Store. If many people start using Windows 10 and thus will buy a lot of apps, it is also a lucrative business model for the company.
