Windows 10 and is free to download for everyone. At least, if you want … For though the new OS is very nice and it’s free, there’s still plenty to play down Windows 10. Is it a good idea to switch? We set up the pros and cons for you at a glance.
1. It is not finished yet
Windows 10 is not finished yet. Although Microsoft since October public beta works on the operating system, there are still many things in the OS that are not quite right. Many of those things are cosmetic: Menus still look inconsistent and the Explorer is still practically the same. The most important things, such as support for older drivers and software, will work well, but you also notice that many things are not perfect.
One of the things that you find good, Edge browser. Which currently has for example no support for add-ons or plugins. That should be “later this year” yet to come, says Microsoft. You will also find some small teething problems in Windows 10, such as the fact that you no longer on your desktop background shuffle can play. Although the system generally works stable, it may be a reason to wait a little longer with Windows 10 and Microsoft really has to order his affairs in order.
2. Windows Media Center is missing
Perhaps you have never used it, but some people swore in Windows Media Center. The meeting place for all music and movies was convenient for example, who made a home server of the Media Center – which for example could with PlayStation. Unfortunately, Windows Media Center from Windows 10 demolished. According to Microsoft, it is because too few people used the application.
There are alternatives, but for true fans, it seems that the best they can stay with their older OS.
3. There may be compatibility issues
Windows 10 since October quite extensively tested by more than 5 million testers. But despite that impressive number is the nnog not sure Windowsd 10 works on all systems. In 99% of cases, Windows 10 will work as it should, with no problems with drivers or compatibility? Software. But you’ll just sit in that 0.5% and have a system that is not run optimally. You can not install a p [rinter because the driver mysteriously not working. Then you’re in the lurch …
Although Microsoft claims that the vast majority of systems without problems using Windows 10, you may always be that just that one program is not working. If you are afraid of that, you better try Windows 10 in a virtual machine. We will explain here how to do it.
4. Windows Vista / 7/8 remain for years supported
Microsoft wants you or make changes to Windows 10, but that does not mean that Windows 7 or Windows 8 users will be ignored completely. Indeed, the support for Windows 7 runs through until at least 2025, and of Windows 8 even up to 2028.
These are standard support. If you’re talking about the real critical support, it may still continue for years longer. Think Windows XP: It dates from 2002, but only in April last year the support was discontinued put final. So you can still several years along with Windows 7 without having to worry about your safety. Even Windows Vista has many years to support
However, there are plenty of reasons to switch indeed.
5. There are all kinds of new features!
Windows 10 is not only safer and more modern, but also has quite a few new features that are very interesting. There is the new task view and the virtual desktops, with which you can create a Windows 10 where productivity monster. Cortana is another nice addition, although it is currently not yet available in Dutch. You can in Windows 10 also stream games from your Xbox to your PC, which works very well.
Add to that a new Action Center, and the fine new start menu, and Windows 10 has enough new features to make out directly try.
6. It works perfectly with your mobile device
Windows 10, a universal operating system, not just on your desktop, but also on your smartphone and tablet, and even on your Xbox should run. This has a few advantages: It is for developers easier to develop apps (which makes for more apps), and you can get Xbox easily stream to the PC
The biggest advantage is soon Action Center. you can link to your smartphone. That way you get all notifications from your smartphone inside your computer, and you can even respond to it with your keyboard. That service, called Continuum, makes working with both a phone and a desktop very attractive. Of course you have to first have a Windows smartphone, but buying them is just too attractive again by this function.
7. Microsoft continues to work on Windows 10
Windows 10 is “the latest version of Windows,” Microsoft says. This means in practice that Microsoft still often comes with updates to the OS. It is not about security updates, but also new features that make it all work again easier.
This means that it does not matter at this point how many features are still missing. That would obviously be added after a while. Everything that still does not work (such as the plugins in Edge) are after Microsoft added to the operating system.
8. The change is very simple
It used to switch to a new operating system be a logistical nightmare. If you back up files, make a copy of your drive, install the new OS fresh, restore files, and meanwhile hope that nothing goes wrong. For Windows 10 that endless process much simpler. All you have to do is to ‘upgrade’ button, and choose your language.
During the transition remain all your documents intact, and they will be listed even in the same place on your desktop . Also programs and settings it works just as usual in Windows 10, making the switch a pleasant surprise. Obviously you have to backup all your files just to be sure, but if everything goes as it should have no problem with transfers. So why would not you do that?
9. It’s free!
Microsoft begins to see that it is not attractive to pay more today for an OS. The free Linux alternatives can now easily compete with Windows and are no longer for the whiz kids, and gives Apple upgrades its operating system also for free. Even Google is trying to capture a slice of the market is also “free” Chrome OS. Why would you have to pay for an operating system
Windows 10 is therefore free -. Provided that you upgrade within 12 months. If you do that after July 29, 2016, you have to repay the money for Windows, so it is important to move within that year. Even after that time, you do not pay for Windows 10, both single and in subscription form.
Where then Microsoft wants to earn his money? Especially from Office 365 subscriptions, of which the company hopes that many people will close. Microsoft also picks up 30% of the purchase price of apps in the store, which is a very lucrative business model with a great offer.
