NASA is presenting the first flower to bloom in space – NU.nl

US astronaut Scott Kelly showed Saturday and Sunday pictures of orange flower on Twitter from the International Space Station.

The flower belongs to the Zinnia, a plant endemic to the entire American continent. Bringing to fruition of the plant is part of the so-called green programs, NASA carries on board the ISS.

Whether example, plants can grow and flourish when there is no gravity, making it answered .

The astronauts in the space station for months occupied with plants. In the ISS plants grow among red, blue and green LED light. The experiments serve as preparation for a long flight to Mars. On board a spacecraft would need to grow vegetables for example
