The OVV writes: All the Spare Parts met the requirements, but that was not sufficient for a safe system ‘
A 57-year-old woman last year made a fatal fall when the bridge opened. while she was still on. She had seen the traffic on the head and noticed only that the bridge was open when she heard the bell at the fall of the barriers. Presumably she thought as she stood before the first barrier and had not seen that she was inmidels between the barriers. So she was located on the moving bridge portion and at the highest point. When the bridge went all the way up, she fell down. She survived the fall of 15 meters and not died on the spot
The Council claims that it was difficult for pedestrians and cyclists to orientate themselves on the bridge. Also signs that the bridge was opened briefly, only with traffic. The movable bridge part where the woman was standing, was not clearly marked. The Council further states that the municipality should do more to ensure that the bridge operator could do his job properly and safely. According to the Council saw the municipality operating the bridge remotely just as a technical issue. “It was assumed that it was safe as long as the technology and cameras but of good quality.” According to the Council, the bridge operator did not see the bike star when he opened the bridge.
The situation in Zaanstad does not stand alone, because more and more bridges are remotely controlled. The Council considers it important that other bridge operators once properly scrutinize the safety of their bridges operated remotely.
