The brand name Motorola is slowly disappearing. Lenovo, the current owner, now wants to use Moto by Lenovo. This does not mean the end of the iconic brand. Lenovo will continue to use the phrase Moto.
The transition will be completed in 2016. Lenovo took over Motorola in 2014 by Google. Since then, Lenovo brought still new Motorola devices with the Moto X Force as the latest addition. Yet this device is called Lenovo but not Motorola. That will change this year so possible. In America especially surprising because this was guaranteed at the time of the acquisition that the brand name Motorola protected and would be in good hands.
Motorola can be seen as the founder of modern cell phone. Especially thanks to models such as the DynaTAC and thin Razr models Motorola lived heyday. After the rise of the touch phone went downhill and landed the brand in trouble. Google came to the rescue and took it over in 2012. With the introduction of the Moto X in 2013 which is known for its minimal Android peel and high degree of adaptability scribbled the note again. However, Google was criticized in particular phone manufacturers who felt that Google was suddenly a competitor rather than supplier. Google sold the American brand to China’s Lenovo. Meanwhile, Lenovo is trying to appease the riot by stating that Motorola as an independent subsidiary remains. What that means for the names of future models will prove next year
