The first KPN customers with a Samsung Galaxy S6 or Galaxy S6 Edge can Monday start with 4G-call. The number of people that the new technique can use is expected to be completed in the coming months, step-by-step greater.

KPN expects to make calls using 4G, the new standard for phone calls. The 4G network was initially only used for data traffic, while calling via 3G or 2G. Smartphones should therefore switch between mobile networks.

The new technique is by KPN tested in cooperation with Samsung and will be available for all devices that the speech technology support. More and more new devices support the so-called VoLTE-default.

we have chosen to 4G-call, first on the S6 and S6 Edge to apply, because it frequently has been tested. KPN is looking for cooperation with smartphonefabrikanten to use this technique for other devices as possible. The network technology should be used for each device are reconciled.

Next year, KPN also make calls via Wi-Fi introducing, whereby subscribers can use their smartphone to call if they have no or poor mobile coverage. The connection is then established via a wi-fi network.
