Hackers have reportedly hundreds of thousands of internet-connected devices, used for a cyber attack on big brands, writes Reuters. The attackers infecteerden commonly used devices such as webcams with harmful codes allowing access to websites like Twitter, Paypal, Spotify, and Amazon Web Services on 21 October, was disrupted. All the mentioned services make use of an American infrastructuuraanbieder called Dyn, which serves as a switchboard for internet traffic. Dyn indicates that the denial-of-service attack (DDoS) from millions of internet addresses was taken, in which at least a part of the malicious traffic back to lead was to connected devices, that were infected with control software with the name Mirai.
Amazon Web Services (AWS) says that the attack temporarily affected users in Western Europe, while PayPal indicates that the incident for certain customers in certain regions, ” made it impossible to make payments.
Akamai, among others, with research into web security concern, warned recently about the possibility of IoT devices by hackers. These devices are often in large numbers shipped with the same user name and password.
