‘Attack those sites platlegden just the beginning’ – NOS

Experts warn against business magazine Forbes that the attack last Friday, three times great websites platlegden, may only be the beginning. On the internet for several thousands of dollars the networks were sold, on the same or even larger scale attacks.

This kind of networks are botnets called. Until now exist especially from normal pc’s, but the network that this past Friday was used consisted partly of smaller devices: the so-called internet of things. Think of products such as baby monitors and security cameras which nowadays are connected to the internet. The security is often poorly regulated, which makes them easy to hack and exploit.

Security firm RSA says in the beginning of October ads found for such botnets. For 4700 dollars, would you to 50,000 bots at your disposal and for 100,000 you pay 7500 dollars. Or it is the same network that Friday grid Dyn platlegde, is unclear.

The seller claims that the network is a ‘firepower’ of 1000 gigabit. That would mean that the network is as strong as the most powerful DDoS-attack (distributed denial of service) which until now is measured. How heavy the attack last Friday, is unknown.
