‘Goodbye BlackBerry means no end to smartphones with keyboard’ – GSM Helpdesk Netherlands

Beginning this week, BlackBerry is big in the news as BlackBerry CEO John Chen announced that BlackBerry itself completely stops the production and development of BlackBerry smartphones. BlackBerry is already for years a heavy loss on the development, production and sales of smartphones. The decision of BlackBerry seemed to be the end to mean for smartphones with a physical QWERTY keyboard.

Although the beginning of this week it seemed that there is no BlackBerry smartphones more would appear, it turns out that this is somewhat more nuanced. BlackBerry outsources the development and production of smartphones is now completely out of to other parties. As is well-known that BlackBerry is partnering with the Chinese smartphone manufacturer TCL, the company behind Alcatel.

TCL has for BlackBerry already the BlackBerry DTEK50 developed and will be available later this year, the BlackBerry DTEK60 to go out. TCL is probably going to be in the future more smartphones under the BlackBerry brand, to release. BlackBerry CEO John Chen has hinted that there are also devices with a physical keyboard in development. Or these devices will also by TCL to be developed, or by another company are made, is not known.

Smartphones with a physical keyboard are today a rarity. Almost all smartphones have only a touchscreen. BlackBerry is the only smartphone manufacturer who in recent years have regularly devices with a physical keyboard has been released. The BlackBerry Private, at the end of last year came on the market, is to date the last smartphone with a physical keyboard that appeared.
