Apple shares meta-data iMessage with police and justice – GSM Helpdesk Netherlands

as discussed also shows Apple’s so-called ‘meta-data’ from iMessage to communicate to the police, the judiciary and the intelligence services. Users of iPhones can use iMessage like WhatsApp via mobile internet messages to each other send. At the time that there is iMessage, a message is sent to someone who does not have an iPhone with iMessage, turn on the iPhone the message to a TEXT message.

Apple keeps on its servers for anyone who makes use of iMessage and who is not. That way it ‘knows’ the iPhone or a message using iMessage to send or that the message is sent as SMS.

in Addition to the data about the use of iMessage it appears Apple is also quite extensive meta-data logging. So to every iMessage conversation, the date and the time set, as well as the IP number from which the communication is conducted. Also logs Apple who with whom communicates. All these data are requested by the police, justice and intelligence services.

The content of the messages that Apple is not known to authorities. Messages sent using iMessage will be sent will be encrypted. If messages are intercepted, the encryption is very difficult for the messages to be able to read. Typically, governments have, however, enough of the ‘meta data’ to analyze who with whom communicates.
