Spinoza Prizes for Wilhelm Huck, Lodi Nauta, Mihai Netea and Bart van Wees – Focus on News

Physico-organic chemist Wilhelm Huck, philosopher Lodi Nauta, internal medicine / infectious disease specialist Mihai Netea and nano-physicist Bart to Be on september 13 will receive the NWO Spinoza prize. That NWO chairman Jos Engelen Friday officially published.

2.5 million

The NWO Spinoza Prize is the highest scientific award in the Netherlands and consists of a sum of 2.5 million euros for scientific research. The NWO Spinoza Prize is an honor and above all an incentive for further research. NWO awards the Spinoza Prizes annually to a maximum of four working in the Netherlands researchers by international standards are among the very best in their field.



Commission

For Spinoza scholars are nominated. This year the committee received 37 nominations. Based on the recommendation on an international science and broad-based committee a shortlist of up to eight candidates. Each candidate will commission in talks with several foreign experts.

Based in part on these interviews, the committee came this year to four scientists who contributed to it for the NWO Spinoza prize. The grant of an NWO Spinoza employs internationally recognized scientific quality as the most important criterion.

Wilhelm Huck is affiliated with the Radboud University, Mihai Netea at Radboud University Nijmegen Medical Centre, Lodi Nauta and Bart van Wees at the University of Groningen. Including the new winners the Netherlands is now 81 Spinoza Laureates.



Presentation

The ceremony for the NWO Spinoza prizes will take place on Tuesday, September 13 at the Nieuwe Kerk in The Hague. During the presentation will tell the recipients what their research and what they want to use the premium.
