This is evident from the doctoral research psychiatrist Yuri Tijdink of the VU University Medical Center.
Tijdink think that the pressure to publish, for example, lead to shoddy data. Also, the study shows that almost a quarter of the surveyed professors facing serious burnout symptoms.
Publication Culture
The publication of studies in scientific journals is becoming increasingly important. “And then preferably yields in journals with a high ranking, so the more citations’,” the psychiatrist says. Tijdink involved 437 medical scientists in his research.
He also looked at how the professors present publication culture experience. “Many scientists are negative and cynical about the current culture. They complain about poor cooperation, cutthroat competition and the importance of citation scores in the evaluation of their scientific work, ” said the researcher.
Resolution
According Tijdink a part of the problems are solved by the number of studies where scientists can work to limit to a maximum of four per year. “Let’s spend more time and money on better research with fewer scientists.”
