AMD announces continue to work on a new generation of processors called Zen, also known by the codename Summit Ridge. The first CPUs come from the end of 2016.
The company shows the chip for the first time at the Computex trade show. With eight cores and 16 threads it must be 40 percent more powerful than current CPUs from AMD.
The processor is also more energy efficient thanks to the 14nm FinFET technology, which is also reflected in the new Radeon RX 480 video card.
AM4
Zen CPUs are initially designed for use in desktops, where they will be built around the new AM4 sockets. Future processors from AMD are therefore compatible with DDR4 memory.
AMD mentions no specific prices or release dates.
