Nobel prize for Physics goes to three, British – NU.nl

That’s Tuesday, announced at the Karolinska institute in Stockholm, a medical university.

According to The Guardian discovered by the scientists was “totally unexpected behavior of solids”. They designed a mathematical system to the behaviors of the substances to be able to understand.

The ondekkingen would have a major role to play in the development of completely new materials that can for instance be used for electronic devices.

Scientists all over the world in the last few years looking for “electronic wondermaterialen”, such as de Volkskrant the substances lists, and the research of the distinguished scientists, is a breakthrough in that area. “Thanks to their pioneering work is the hunt for new and exotic states of matter opened,” said the Swedish Academy.

The area of expertise of the scientists is called ‘topology’, ‘the doctrine of forms’. “Crucial in this is that fundamentally different forms, such as a sphere and a doughnut mathematically, not just in each other to form. Also in physics, is a difference in topology almost irreconcilable,” says de Volkskrant in an article from 2014.

The three British scientists are all affiliated with American top universities. The prize amount of 8 million Swedish krona (830.000 euros). Thouless get half of them, Haldane and Kosterlitz share the other half.
