Android 7.0 Nougat released: this should know – Yahoo! News

Google Android 7.0 officially released Nougat. Nexus devices, the update can already download, people with a different phone have to wait. What’s new in the OS?

Nexus devices are smartphones and tablets from Google, which is always the first to receive Android updates. They get the update over-the-air: this means they will automatically receive a notification when the update is available for download

Manufacturers like Samsung, LG, Huawei and Sony go the operating system to your own liking and customize. then roll out to their devices. Therefore it always takes longer if for example you have a Samsung Galaxy S7 or Sony Xperia Z5. On the manufacturer’s website you can usually see when the new Android update for your device is expected.

What’s new in Android 7.0 nougat?

1 . New design for notifications
Google has a clear goal in mind: you must be able to work more productively with Android. Therefore, the Internet giant has changed the design of the notifications. First of all notifications are now grouped. Do you have twenty Twitter notifications? Appear in one report. That saves space and if you want more information, you can expand a notification by swiping down.

In many apps, you can now respond directly from the notification. Think of WhatsApp or telegram. If you swipe down to a notification of this app, you’ll see a bar at the bottom where you can type in a comment. Pressure is transmitted on the send button and your comment. So you can in a relatively short time on all your notifications answer.

In addition, the beam matched with rapid alerts. This is a lot slimmer than before, with smaller icons. Once you get down the slide bar, you get to see more settings. The settings panel you can organize itself and it is even possible to create multiple pages with different settings.

On our Nexus 6P example, we have selected the buttons for WiFi, Bluetooth, do not disturb, hotspot and flashlight, but when we get down swipe we to stream the image to a Chromecast include access to airplane mode and cast button.

2. Setup menu is extensive
Android Settings menu is customized which parts directly show more relevant information. When part WiFi see which network you are connected to, in part apps you see how much you’ve installed it.

The Settings menu is made longer by displaying additional information. Since Google has found a solution: a menu that from the left to slide inwards. The work is not necessarily faster than just scrolling up considerably, but it is a nice touch.

3. dividing screen
Android Nougat is possible to divide in half the screen. That’s already possible on recent Samsung devices, but now Google has the function actually built into Android. By long pressing the multitask button, share your screen in two. This works both portet- as landscape mode. The two windows are divided by a bar that you can move in order to adjust the size of the windows.

The division of a screen is especially useful if you use a tablet. These devices have a larger screen so you can run two applications functionally next to each other, such as a document and website. Also useful is the ability to quickly switch between recently-opened apps. By repeatedly pressing the multitask button, you can switch between your recently used apps or running apps navigate through the list. The function is similar to alt-tab window in Windows.

4. Install faster apps and update
Google makes Android Nougat use of a new technology that allows applications to be compiled. This process ensures that an application can be started. Rather than compile the entire application after installation, the app will be gradually compiled

Imagine that. WhatsApp you download and launch the app. Then the app is compiled so you can see the message list. Once you press a call, another small piece of extra compiled. This saves considerably on installation time, because within ten minutes Nexus 6P installed a few dozen apps. This process normally takes considerably longer.

5. Longer battery life
Android 6.0 Marshmallow introduced Doze, a feature that saves energy when an Android device enters sleep mode. This mode is activated only if you are not using the unit for a longer time, which Doze especially has a positive effect on Android tablets.

Android Nougat is Doze expanded to also activate the power saving changes if the screen is idle for a short time. Doze so once in a while turns the Internet into, after receiving new data applications. Google also places more restrictions on app developers to ‘wake’ of an Android device.

6. Apps consume less data
Those who use Chrome are probably familiar with the data saving option. If you enable this option, Chrome uses less data. Google reduces the size of the requested site, making the browser consumes less data.

Android nougat is a finding similar function, but made especially for apps. This’ data saver reduces the data usage of apps when they are inactive. Another object of data saver is to lower the quality of the data that is retrieved. This example is useful for streaming a YouTube video, which then uses less data.

7. Block numbers easier
The option to block numbers has been expanded with Android Nougat. Instead of just blocking incoming broadcasters, other apps also now see the list of blocked numbers. This means that you no longer can be called from other apps by these numbers, such as Skype, Hangouts, or Signal.

The list of blocked numbers will also sync with your Google Account. If you switch to a new Android smartphone, the numbers entered by you are blocked by default again.
