“Dropbox hackers steel account information of 69 million users – NU.nl

This was discovered by Motherboard . Dropbox recently let users reset their passwords associated with data that was stolen in 2012. The company announced then not much data it went.

Dropbox stolen data would be available in four files totaling about 5 gigabytes. This data would be 68,680,741 Accounts. An anonymous Dropbox employee would have confirmed the authenticity of the files viewed.

Dropbox has always claimed that only email addresses were stolen, but the file containing the stolen data are also passwords. These passwords are stored encrypted, so cybercriminals can not use them lightly.

Some of the stolen passwords are encrypted using an older, standard encryption method that Dropbox still used in 2012.
