Many webcams bogged down by Anniversary Update – PC

The Anniversary Update ensures that unintentional ‘millions’ webcams do not work, including popular models from Logitech. are working on a solution that will hopefully follow soon.

On that site Thurrott writes based on the support forum at Microsoft. Many Windows 10 users complain about the crash of their webcams, for example, when video calling with Skype. A bug is not Microsoft has deliberately chosen to communicate with software cams in a new way

Previously, it was so that it could gain access at the same time only one program to the webcam.. In order to circumvent this limitation, Microsoft introduced with the Anniversary Update a new system for managing multiple video signals simultaneously.

However, the so-called Windows Camera Frame Server does not handle to the MJPEG and H .264 video codecs, where the majority of USB webcams use.

Solution for some cameras

it was probably not the intention to so many webcam users from one day to shut out, and therefore there working on a solution. Which should be ready in September. MJPEG cameras would then at least have to be recognized by the new system. When H.264 cameras should work again, is not yet known.

Users can also try to solve the problem on your own risk, but for that they need to have some knowledge of the windows registry 10. Steps are described previously by our colleagues at PCM.
