“Solar wind caused erosion atmosphere Mars – NU.nl

That NASA announced Thursday in a live broadcast. The climate on Mars by the solar wind, and by the more powerful solar storms, greatly changed.

The US space agency had already announced “significant findings” to come upon the Martian atmosphere.

According to scientists, the atmosphere of Mars was once much thicker, making the climate at the planet was warmer and wetter.

According to NASA loses Mars by the solar wind every second about 100 grams of gas. “Similar to the daily steal some coins from a cash register: the loss is ultimately considerably,” concludes researcher Bruce Jakosky.

During a solar storm, the process is accelerated, and erodes the Martian atmosphere at a considerably faster pace.

Liquid water

NASA announced in late September already that on Mars almost certainly liquid water is present.

Salt water would flow in certain periods over the surface of the planet and form gullies. This is shown in accordance with NASA out of the soluble salts that have been observed at least four slopes in warm periods by a satellite. The salt deposits requires scientists to form water.

According to NASA continues, due to the presence of water, the possibility existed that there is life on Mars, or has existed. Where the water comes from, it remains unclear
