Android Google Maps app gets offline navigation – NU.nl

This has Google said Tuesday.

The function can be activated in the search bar of maps to a location, for example to look for a country or city name. In the details pane on the site then turns into a download button.

Before the download starts, the user can choose exactly what area he wants to store offline. The app shows how much MB it will take and start the download.

Deployment

Earlier, Google hit some cards already temporarily offline, but navigation was not possible without an Internet connection. If the app now realize that the Internet is not available, will automatically activate an offline mode.

If an Internet connection can be made again, Maps of the full version features include live traffic immediately.

The rollout of the new job starts Tuesday, says Google. It is unclear how long the deployment will last exactly. The function will “soon” also to iOS
