Nearly 3,000 iOS apps discovered who spread malware via advertising – Personal Computer Magazine

Almost 3,000 iOS apps use a leaking advertising network allowing to steal personal information. To our knowledge the network has not yet been exploited by hackers, and the leak is now closed.

The discovery was made by security company FireEye. This was discovered by an ad network that was used by apps to display ads, in which a large hole SAT.

steal data With the hole it was possible to take screenshots of a phone, but also to steal personal files such as photos. It was also possible to install other apps on an iOS device, which allows even more information could be stolen.

After the leak was found FireEye has contacted Apple. This has a number of apps since been removed, but not all. Also, the app developers themselves need to update their apps to use another ad network. As far as is known, no app leak actually exploited.
