This week confirmed the Bostonian Society a rumor has long circulated in the American city. In the head of the famous lion statue on top of the Old State House is indeed a time capsule from 1901, “We are trying the best way to figure out to open without damaging the lion the time capsule,” said a spokesman for the association. A ceremony to open the time capsule will likely – if everything goes according to plan – take place during the first week of October.
The Lion statue was located next to a unicorn, on the roof of the historic Old State House in the American city of Boston. It is the building where in 1776 the Declaration of Independence was read. When recently the two symbols of the British monarchy were taken down for restoration, sculptor confirmed the existence of the time capsule.
It would be a copper box the size of a shoe box go, which is fixed in the head of the lion. Based on a newspaper article of the time, one suspects that the time capsule contains photographs, signatures, newspaper articles and letters from politicians and prominent citizens of the time.
“Hopefully, the content was not wet,” said Heather Leet, a spokesman for the Bostonian Society, the organization that maintains the building. The association would be several years are aware of the time capsule, because one of the descendants of the original sculptor had written about them a letter yourself. A fiber optic camera confirmed that rumor.
Ideas for new capsule?
Meanwhile, a campaign was launched with the question of what is certainly in need of a new time capsule that may be. Until then opened over 113 years Ideas and suggestions can be shared via Twitter and Facebook with the hashtag #LionAndUnicorn.
